Crash -1 month

So if you ever feel like being parent of the year there is one thing you must do as a first time parent. (Please note the previous statement is dripping with sarcasm. You'll understand with the next sentence.)
Get in a car accident 1 month to the day of your child's birth.
Yup, I did it. Amazing timing. Not to mention that it totally made me feel like an Awesome parent (again sarcasm).

Fielding and I had just gotten our hair cut at my sister's house and were heading home in separate vehicles. Fielding in his car and I in mine with Serenity. Drove up the road to get on the freeway. 6 teenagers on the right hand side of the car avoided. Vehicle in front of me turns right onto the freeway. I continue through the light. Look to my left and see a car heading towards my vehicle. Naw, that car is turning into the lane next to me like it's supposed to....Nope. Thunk! (It wasn't a really hard hit.) I pull over immediately following the accident and wait for a second to breath (and not freak out). I get out of my car, check Serenity. She was okay. She slept through it. I then went to check the other driver since they hadn't gotten out of their vehicle yet. She was on the phone talking to her husband trying to figure out what she needed to do. I told her to call dispatch. She called 911 and we waited for the cops to show up.
                      and waited

Fielding called me twice while we waited. Luckily, Mandi talked to me about a few random things so I didn't freak out and start crying. Let's face it, that wouldn't have helped anyone.
                                                            and waited.
In all we waited about 30 minutes. (Thank goodness no one was hurt.) The officer finally showed up on the scene and talked with both myself and the other driver. She said I ran a red light. I said I didn't and that she turned into my lane after I was through the intersection.

So we filled out our statements and after she had left (both cars were drivable) he finally asked me if Serenity was okay. I said she seemed okay and wasn't lethargic.

I then went on to my mom's because she'd called about Serenity's blessing dress. Once I got there, I called the oncall pediatrician to find out if I needed or should do anything. He called back and recommended I take her to the Instacare. I took her to the Instacare and they didn't feel comfortable assessing her and didn't have the equipment to do so. They referred me to the ER. So that is where I went. I had my poor month old baby sitting in her car seat for over 3 hours before a doctor was able to really take a look at her.
While waiting, there was a guy who had been hit in the face by a stray baseball. It hit him right below the eye socket and gave his some fractures. Not to mention a crazy bad headache. About that time my daughter started crying because she was hungry. -Poor guy. He and his wife were exited when I brought Serenity out to say hi to them though. He said her crying was okay. Their boy (when he was a baby) had colic for several months.
The doctor finally showed up and I felt worse for him than for my long wait. He had a cast/boot on his foot and was on crutches. Did I mention that he was somehow holding onto a clipboard and maneuvering doors? He checked her out and said that she looked good and that we just needed to watch her for the next couple of days to see if her demeanor changed (overly fussy or lethargic).
I think I was more worried about her sleeping that night than when I first brought her home from the hospital.
At least nothing horrendous happened and she seems to be doing all right. Guess it just means I can tease her when she gets older. Some people get dropped on their heads and some people have car accidents.

These are her hungry faces.

Such a happy baby. Not overly grouchy.

Tired little piggy.

I'm starting to think she was just a hungry baby.
She liked being bundled up tight.
First Easter Party with the Cates/Storrs/Roe/Harding family
Taking a pic to show a cousin
And then she made this face for about 2 second. What happened?

Sleeping baby
waking baby

Tired baby
Happy baby again.
plotting baby?
bored baby

SO EXCITED baby.

I like PLOTTING BABY face. Hahahaha. What a crack up!

So glad you're safe, both of you. Hope the car is okay too? Boo on that dumb sluh for saying the accident was your fault. Psh. She'll get hers (and if she doesn't, I am totally down with egging her - just let me know).

Yeah, I'm glad we were alright too. I just wish she had turned into HER lane instead of mine (as the law states). How is it that we take drivers ed to get a license and promptly forget 80% of what we learned about driving. Blinkers, lane change, 4 way stops?
I'm glad I've got backup if I need it though. Thanks Kateka. =)
